Municipio Arenoso, Duarte, Republica Dominicana
Historia
El municipio Arenoso pertenece a la provincia Duarte. Está ubicada en la parte este de la provincia, y tiene por límites la provincia María Trinidad Sánchez al norte y este, y el municipio Villa Riva al sur y oeste.
Tuvo sus orígenes en a finales del siglo XIX, y al igual que otros municipios de Duarte este surgió tras la construcción y funcionamiento del ferrocarril Sánchez- La Vega. En este periodo, Arenoso era un importante punto comercial de la región, atrayendo a pobladores provenientes de San Francisco de Macorís, Moca, Salcedo y La Vega.
El nombre de Arenoso se debe a que el Río Yuna atraviesa este territorio, y debido a las alzas en el nivel del río los bohíos quedaban llenos de arena.
En el año 1975, fue designado como Distrito Municipal, y luego pasó ser Municipio de la provincia Duarte el 31 de junio de 1993.
El municipio cuenta con dos distritos municipales: Aguacate y Las Coles.
La economía de Arenoso se sustenta en la agricultura y la crianza de ganado. Actualmente, este municipio es uno de los mayores productores de arroz del Cibao.
Otra importante fuente de ingresos son las remesas, ya que muchas arenosenses han emigrado a Europa y Norteamérica.
Las fiestas patronales de Arenoso se llevan a cabo del 4 al 13 de mayo en honor a Nuestra Señora de Fátima.
